Welcome to Civil and Construction Engineering

Civil engineers design and construct facilities necessary for the welfare of the community. They are key members of teams involved in the design and construction of buildings, bridges, roads and highways, railways, harbours, dams, water distribution and treatment systems, tunnels and underground structures, offshore structures, municipal infrastructure and other large structures and projects. In this course, you will develop scientific, mathematical and practical skills, together with an understanding of sustainability, economic, environmental and social responsibilities. You will learn to apply these skills in structural analysis and design, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, water engineering, construction and professional practice to solve engineering problems. Foundational civil engineering skills are introduced in second year, and further developed and applied in third year. In your final year, you will integrate your design, construction and management skills in large civil engineering projects and undertake a major civil engineering research project. Optional units are offered in third and fourth year which enable specialisation in particular civil engineering areas, or broadening in complimentary areas.
